Tommy Richman Pulls Strings For “Mortal Sacrifice” Visuals

It’s already been two months since Tommy Richman released his latest project. The inner machinations of time are an enigma. * Patrick voice *

WORLDS APART*” came to us as an 8-song mixtape/EP when the air was a little less chill and turkeys were walking around learning why the chicken crossed the road. Personally, much like “COYOTE,” the entire project found a home in my rotation.

Safe to say: I’m a fan and seeing new drops from Richman gets my attention. Seeing a new video to one of the standouts, “Mortal Sacrifice,” piques my interest even more. Imagine my surprise when we get a visualizer of this nature.

Tommy Richman enlisted Josh Flores to direct what can best be described as a rich experience that differs from the album version. A stripped down version that lets the vocals shine while bringing some emotion through live instruments. Any time you can get an ensemble of musicians & artists in one room dedicated to the art? The results speak for themselves. So shout out as well to pianist Max He, violinists Nina Woods & Shawn, and cellist Marza Merophi Wilks + all other members of the production team (listed here) who helped bring this live performance to our screens.

To give Tommy some credit here, the mic is absolutely ON. With his background in Opera training during classes at the Manhattan School of Music, he expertly showcases what that voice of his can do under all the production and studio magic. Laying down “I don’t want to tell you in the afterlife, that’s a mortal sacrifice” and “can we just hold on?” to such a soundscape creates a deeper connection to the song itself.

Music that gets finessed into a new setting, especially turning to live instruments, is one of my favorite genres of collaboration. A la Chief Keef & Audiomack’s “Trap Symphony” or Nas recently partnering with various philharmonics to do a tour of live performances for the 30th year of “Illmatic”.
