New Music Spotlight: R&B Edition III

Welcome back to The Daily Note’s weekly “New Music Spotlight”— where we talk about music your ears should be on, by artists to keep your eyes on.

This week’s “New Music Spotlight” features songs from emerging R&B artists taking us through the cycles of romance and the passion that lives between it all— revealing to listeners the themes that inspire the music.

First Pick: “Your Loss” by REMI opens up with beautiful strings that translate a feeling of urgency. REMI’s voice then softens the sound of the atmosphere as the song opens up with the lyrics “Can't compare, no it ain't the same baby / I could never lose / needed time to yourself so you got what you asked for”— words that land on the ears bittersweetly. As the song progresses, REMI then seemingly arrives at closure, singing the lyrics “Memorized all the words that you wish you could take back / I don't need your apologies, girl you can save that.” If anything, this song inspires the idea that even with the loss that comes from heartbreak, the chapter after is where you open yourself up to the opportunity of having the peace in life and love that you’ve been seeking.

Second Pick: “Seasons” by Dee Gatti is a track that feels warm, and has a style of production that is perfectly minimal, which helps in accentuating Dee Gatti’s velvety vocals. The song narrates the ebbs and flows of the growing pains that can arise in a love story. As Dee Gatti serenades the lyrics “If we stuck in a drought / Don’t let it go down the drain / When the storm comes around / Can you still stand the rain,” there is a moment of introspection on the topic of love that rests with listeners. As we continue to listen, the lyrics “When leaves start to fall / Seasons might change / Tension might grow / But love just don’t fade,” affectionately summarizes how lovers will meet each other in different seasons throughout their relationship— but in each season, love for each other remains, if they choose to nurture it.

Third Pick: “touch Me, tease Me” by Isaiah Kaleo featuring Vesta is a sensual groove that exudes passion in its lyricism and production. The chemistry of Isaiah Kaleo and Vesta on this track is undeniably a match made in the booth. Throughout the chorus, Isaiah Kaleo melodiously sings “Hold me babe / Touch me babe / Heal me babe / Show up for me,” giving this track an all-over seductive appeal that will have you playing it on repeat. This is a late-night R&B track made for lovers.
