New Music Spotlight: R&B Edition X

Welcome back to The Daily Note’s weekly “New Music Spotlight”— where we talk about music your ears should be on, by artists to keep your eyes on.

On this week’s “New Music Spotlight,” artists on the rise get vulnerable about the fantasies and realities of the blooming and withering of romance.

First Pick: “CRUSH!” by Essosa has a bubbly and flirtatious charm about it. This record brings to life the experience of a summer love with sweet delicate melodies, and dreamy vocals. Essosa shared via Instagram that “this song is about being eager to let a friend know how you really feel, and not letting your past dictate your future happiness.

Second Pick: “FOREVER?” by Ariel J. channels the romantic ideations of a lovers imagination. This record is bouncing in a whimsical rhythm that wakes up the heart and warms the soul. Throughout the record, Ariel J. serenades a bold lovers prompt—“If I fall in love with you right away, would you hesitate to fly away together?

Third Pick: “Crack A Smile” by Felix Ames feels like a confessional from a lovesick heart. This song is achy, yet leaves enough room for yearning. The lyrics are somber and sung tenderly by the soul singer. As the track closes out on the line “Sometimes loving you felt just like war,” there is an air of acceptance of a chapter that is longingly reminiscent; staying in the past.
