Maxo Kream - No Then You A Hoe
Here I am, crying in the club.
Maxo Kream shows some vulnerability with “No Then You A Hoe”. Let’s call it a tribute to his pops who passed recently, as he speaks with impeccable detail on the experience of his last days with him; down to the last minute.
The thing that gets me emotional is how Maxo unpacks some emotions watching his family’s health declining around him. He even connects it all to his daughter and being a father.
All this is done over a beat that doesn’t do too much. It calmly rides in the background, almost prompting me to feel like with this beat choice Maxo is saying, “Sit with me real quick, I got something to say”.
I always appreciate when artists can peel back the layers and show us their humanity; when they can push past an image they feel needs to be upheld.
Sending condolences and love. I’ll probably be spinning this 18 more times in the next few days.
