Within the past 10 years, the Carolinas has been getting included with conversations about regional rap that is big on the scene. We’ve been introduced to those such as Rapsody, TiaCorine, and Lisha G who are just some female artists from the area who are making big waves. Let me introduce you to your new favorite Carolina rap girlie: Big Mama German.
A Gemini through and through - being a superstar is just a part of her nature. Don’t let her BRATZ size fool you. She gives looks that possess the perfect touch of dramatic, her bars are full of confidence and her voice packs so much charisma - she’s basically flirting with you on the beat. Her sound pays homage to the gritty Nicki Minaj that we fell in love with her debut iconic hits like Itty Bitty Piggy and 5-Star Chick. There’s a taste of the Miami hoochie mama palate that Trina and Jacki-O pioneered.
Now, let’s get into her most recent tape: “German Chocolate Factory 2.” Her second installment of the “German Chocolate Factory” debut tape series that gives her “Grind Hard” is such a nostalgic 2000s Hip-Hop vibe. “Go Down” gives us an ole fashioned good Houston chopped and screwed vibe while rapping to the ladies about not choosing bums (rightfully so). “F.U.N.” gives 2014 R&B Nicki perfectly. “Lookin 4 Her” is my personal favorite; she rides the beat with so much bravado, you can’t help but become an immediate fan. “Bitchy” is a runner up with her impressive flow switch. However, “Out My Mental” is by far the stand out track in this tape due to her fusion of grunge rock and rap - showcasing her sonic versatility.
When asked about the creation of GCF2, she shares, “It was purely fun. I wanted to give something not exactly nostalgia but something reminiscent of the new and not old, if that makes sense. I wanted to give crazy versatility and show hella personality. It’s really giving BIG Gemini energy”. Now a few months into its release and seeing its overall reception, she states that this is so far, her best body of work.
