Wizkid ft Brent Faiyaz - Piece Of My Heart

There are select artists who consistently don’t miss when they drop and I believe Brent and Wizkid each have this rapport individually, so them joining forces was undeniably bound to please the ear. This collaboration between the two of them feels like where R&B and Afro Beats meet and dance harmoniously in sync. Neither genre dictates the record, whereas as each one is rather embraced and delicately intertwined. 

What’s special about “Piece of My Heart” is that it plays like two songs in one. The first two and a half minutes is over Afro Beat style production where Wizkid is in his natural element and Brent fits in and finds his pocket nicely. We then hear the sound of a cassette tape rolling and the production switches over to a more traditional R&B beat and now the roles are reversed. It feels like it goes from Wizkid featuring Brent Faiyaz, to Brent Faiyaz featuring Wizkid. And though Afro Beats generally take over the summer, this arrangement fits nicely for the fall weather we’re experiencing currently.

As the title suggests, the song describes the relationship with a lover who they can’t stay away from. Despite the obvious chemistry, there are implications that there are still other factors stopping them from being together. But together or not, a piece of his heart will remain with her still.

For any lover of both R&B and Afro Beats, “Piece of My Heart” is honestly a dream.
