Westside Gunn - Heels Have Eyes (EP)

Okay, it has to be said because it’s noteworthy: Westside Gunn has been dropping rather often since Halloween. Whether he hops on other artist’s tracks (like other Griselda members), random singles, or drops an EP, at this point we have to expect a WSG heat check once or twice a month.

“Heels Have Eyes” is 10 minutes of fly raps, quick skits, and emphatic trash talking over soul-sampled beats laced with that familiar lush-voiced “Griselda” tag whispered occasionally into our speakers. And you can’t forget the ad-libs. The way he flows throughout while painting pictures about what happens if the math ain’t mathing is always on point. Not to mention there’s always like 700 fashion bars that barely make sense to the uninformed but will sound good regardless.

Yet he’ll somehow do his best Supa Hot Fire impression by saying he’s not even a rapper like he does at the end “Davey Boy Smith,” instead preferring to be called a culture curator. He’ll say he doesn’t even like to rap. Well we’re fans of when he does.

When Griselda members start going on a tear, they consistently heat it up (just look at Boldy James recently too). WSG can continue blessing us with this successful sonic formula; we won’t complain.
