Aaliyah & The Weeknd - Poison (Single)

First of all, the fingerprints of Aaliyah’s faint yet funky sound has permeated R&B, hip-hop and pop as we know it. The late superstar has plenty of obvious daughters, but let’s be real also give her her credit for her sons. The entire Toronto R&B sound owes a lot to Aaliyah, with Drake, Tory, and today’s special guest The Weeknd leading the pack. So it’s an intriguing pair to say the last, especially given Abel’s new kick of 80’s synths and powerful arena pop drums. You almost wouldn’t think the two would mesh until you remember the dark brooding sounds that Abel made his name off of. Check out the posthumous collaboration above and form your own opinion. One thing that’s for sure, is that it’s great to even see Aaliyah’s name popping up in new contexts like this. Your legacy will never die. RIP Babygirl.

For more Aaliyah (hopefully) and the Weeknd (duh) keep it locked to TDN, forever.
