Santana Fox - Eye Candy (Album)
As I sit here looking out the window, the sky is grey and there is rainfall pattering against the windowpane. “Eye Candy” is playing in my headphones and is perfectly complimenting the atmosphere of this gloomy day.
I want to begin by giving Santana Fox her flowers as this LP was both self-written and self-produced. Beyond the music, the cover art and physical disc itself were so visually pleasing that I tuned in just off the strength of that alone. It came across my timeline and it demanded my attention. I very much appreciate when you can feel the effort and thought behind an artist’s work.
This project is both sonically and thematically cohesive. The cover art and song titles all work in relation to one another and give you a feel of what you’re about to experience even before pressing play. That type of intentionality is impressive to me.
The production is haunting and eerie while the raps are sharp. Sitting at 13 tracks long, interwoven by a series of interludes, skits, and songs, the listening experience is exactly that— an experience. “Fight Me” featuring Pohlosweater is my absolute favorite song on the project.
I think “Eye Candy” would be best enjoyed at night or on a gloomy day, as I mentioned earlier. That type of setting would really enhance the tone of the sounds on this project. Furthermore, this is going to be PERFECT to roll out for the Halloween season.
