Sample Saturday: Mac DeMarco - Chamber Of Reflection
Welcome back to Sample Saturday, where we talk about samples from some of your favorite songs. Today we will be talking about the sample used in Mac DeMarco’s “Chamber of Reflection” from his 2014 album “Salad Days.”
“Chamber of Reflection” lets the listener take a moment to analyze themselves and where they stand in their comfortability in being alone. Reminding the listener that in order to truly be a better you, you have to spend some time alone.
DeMarco samples the 1975 Japanese song “ザ・ワード” produced by Shigeo Sekito. Translating to “The World ||,” the synthy-jazz fusion brings a relaxing ringing to the ear while leaving you in a state of calmness.
Taking the synths from the sample while putting his own spin on the sound and takes it to a different level. While keeping the original melody of the song, DeMarco amplifies the sound by adding drums and kicks to balance out the sound of the synths from the sample.
Together a beautiful rhythm is created and leaves the listener wanting more.
