Sample Saturday: Lil Uzi Vert - What You Saying
Happy holidays and welcome back to Sample Saturday !! Where we disscuss samples from some of your favorite songs. This week we will be tallking about the sample use in Lil Uzi Vert's new song, "What You Saying"
"What You Saying" is dedicated to Lil Uzi Vert's long love for the art of fashion. From runway pieces to editorial pieces, Lil Uzi Vert spends time in the song & video making an ode to fashion.
In the track produced by MCVertt, he samples the 2014 French song “Love Story" by Indila. This song comes from her debut album "Mini World" produced by French producer Skalp. Though it was a very popular album that sold over 630,000 copies in France and approximately 850,000 worldwide, this is her only studio album.
MCVertt uses various elements of the song, creating a sonically beautiful masterpiece. The song already having a whimsical melodic sound, MCVertt takes sounds from the beginning part of the song and leading up to the chorus.
The French vocals taking over majority of the song over the Philly-drill beat strangely works.
MCVertt does a unbelievable job at amplifying the instruments in the original sample of the song such as the piano and violin and combining the bounce of the beat adding the drill element.
Taking the song down an octave from the original key and speeding up the sound brings together the sound of both the enchanting classical element and the hip-hop element.
Merging these two different worlds of sounds together, a jewel of a beat and song has been created and has graced ears of many.
