Sample Saturday: Anysia Kym - Speedrun

Welcome back to Sample Saturday! Where we disscuss the samples from some of your favorite songs. Today will be disscussing the sample used in Anysia Kym's song "Speedrun" off her 2025 album "Purity" produced by Tony Seltzer.

"Speedrun" tackles the topic of navigating self-love while departing from a relationship. Learning to go the extra mile herself instead of waiting for her partner to do it for her, Kym embraces putting herself first and remembering who she is.

The song sampled in "Speedrun" is the song "Amen, Brother" by The Winstons from the 1969 album "Color Him Father." This song has grown popularity and now labeled the "Amen Break" due to the infamous drum break mid-song. Performed by Gregory Coleman, the 7-second drum break has made a staple in drum and bass music worldwide.

Seltzer takes the "Amen Break" and slows down the drums a little, still letting the drum and bass flow. Leaving the song space to breathe, Seltzer combines elements of R&B including Kym's soothing voice. Bringing the worlds of drum and bass together with R&B, a balance is created amongst the genre fusion.
