$wifty - Watch This… (Album)

PVD’s own $wifty finally delivers us the follow-up to the sturdy-pop masterpiece “Better Without You”. Yeah, technically he’s a rapper, but them melodies and content do not lie - $wifty is a popstar in the making. What made his last project so good is the refreshing hyperpop-trap take on the Jersey Club sound and the smoothly transitioned sequencing. This project trades in the glistening synths that made that record so special for a darker energy courtesy of muffled samples, heavy bass, and more sporadic drums. I bring this up because $wifty is entirely self-produced. His major strength lies in his ability to weave together a full project because of this. The production remains moody and open, yet energetic thanks to the sturdy drums. There’s no pulsing Jersey kick running through the whole project this time, leaving the room for more varied production like “Different” (which could’ve been bitten by Drake for Honestly Nevermind) or the Chixtape-flavored “Breathe” where $wifty does a duet with a Mario sample. At just 7 tracks and 18 records, the tracklist is incredibly cohesive and concise, leading to a smooth listen all the way through.

$wifty is establishing himself as one to watch right before our very eyes. Follow @lilswifty_ on the social medias.
