Korin (Artists To Watch)

The genre defying songstress from Atlanta uses her background in theatre to deliver a cinematic feel to her music and visuals. Korin is able to strip it down and get emotional about her detachment from a past lover on the haunting track “Numb”, while also being able to give us an upbeat, addicting R&B record interpolating Eve’s iconic “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” on her single “My Way” featuring Tony Shhnow. She is able to draw listeners in through both versatility and relatability.

Korin’s discography is flavorful, with sounds ranging from R&B, Pop, Alternative, Rock and moments where they all fuse together. The soundscapes she arranges set the perfect stage for her tantalizing vocals to pierce through. From the production choices, to vocal tone, to memorable melodies and runs, to the overall ambience it provides, a Korin song is sure to not only keep you engaged but keep you coming back for more.

“A Series of Unfortunate Events”, her debut EP, was released last June and you can feel that it was crafted with care and intention. Beginning with the cover art: it boasts similarities to a mid century renaissance painting featuring Korin in a dimly lit room, laying on a velvet couch, draped with fur and an assortment of fruit resting in a golden tray, backed by candlelight. This is the type of cover that will grab your attention and peak your curiosity— which is exactly what a cover should do. What makes it even better is that sonically and visually, the art is symbiotic. “A Series of Unfortunate Events” is cohesive, theatrical, sonically dramatic, vulnerable, and something that continues to get better with each listen.

Korin is a true artist and world builder and I look forward to seeing the rest of her world unfold through visuals and new music. You can get familiar with her sound by pressing play on this 10-track playlist:
