8PAST - New Bedford Artists To Watch, Vol. 4

Hello one and all. Once again, it’s Sky Bento here on the check-in. Big Bento Energy is in full effect.

I’m back once and again, representing for the 8PAST. I know it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these but I really do love my city man. We’ve gotten some new music from two of the hottest rappers in the city who’ve unfortunately spent much of their careers incarcerated. Hopefully these new joints build the buzz up enough they could leave the streets alone entirely and feed their families off of just the music. Ain’t that what we in it for? So scroll down with me and peep what the 508 has to offer. New Bedford, Massachusetts that is. Pay attention, you might just hear your new favorite joint.

Check these out:

Uub moon & xagi yung - “Go thru”

Uub Moon is a relative newcomer to the NB hip-hop scene. A native to the city, Uub Moon is one of the original members of Xagi Yung’s BEKM crew, but didn’t really put out music until the pandemic hit. Since then, he’s dropped a few joints on his soundcloud (most of which feature Xagi) but this is his first single released to streaming platforms. Like many of the artists associated with Xagi, Uub plays with the melody of his voice to reflect his pain but he has a more traditional East Coast delivery hiding behind it. Check out “Go Thru” up above.

Yung Quapo - “First Day Out”

QUAP TIME! Welcome home to arguably the hottest rapper in the city and he was quick to sign a distribution deal with one of Roc Nation’s affiliated parties. Congratulations are definitely in order and it’s well deserved. Quapo has unfortunately spent a lot of his career behind bars, but this is the first time he’s tackled the First Day Out tradition. Hopefully he’s never in the position to drop another one. What separates Quapo is his youthful voice that he pushes to its absolute limits, hitting the highest notes in his range. Dude is really musical with his melodies. Check it out above.

Greedy P, Xagi Yung & Rocky Rich - “Cash Out”

We already mentioned one of the pioneers of the New Bedford rap scene in Xagi Yung and if you’ve peeped my other 8PAST articles, you’re likely familiar with both his brother Rocky Rich & GMD’s Greedy P. These three have all collaborated in different combinations before. The New Bedford rap scene is very much like Atlanta with the amount of collaborations that just happen organically. Check out this new record from these three up above.
