Jazzy Tha Rapper - Tha Rapper
“This the last damn year I let a n**** play on my top, play on my head, play with my pussy, play with my bread” and you know what…YES. All of that. A powerful introduction to Jazzy Tha Rapper’s latest single “Tha Rapper” that sets the tone right from the jump.
The gritty, hard-hitting production choice gave me similar vibes to Tyler, The Creator’s “Yonkers” in the best way; reimagined and original. It worked as the perfect backdrop for Jazzy to drive her message home.
She took to instagram the other day and shared that she made this song as a recovering people-pleaser. The given context made a lot sense because the entire record sounds and feels like a reclamation of one’s self and their power. From the production, to the bars, to the voice inflections, Jazzy’s delivery is memorable as it is skillful. I mean, “Way you n***** suck, man you something like a throat goat” is going to stick with me for some time.
“Tha Rapper” finishes the same way it begins: “This the last damn year I let a n**** play on my top, play on my head, play with my pussy, play with my bread.” This is a daily affirmation as far as I’m concerned. I love that she chose to close out by circling back to that opening line because it reinforces the notion that she is readily prepared to take all of her power back into the hands of its rightful owner— herself.
