Inside Lily Rayne’s “Girl On Rhode” (INTROVERT EVENT REVIEW / Album)

What it do. Sky Bento back here once again on the check-in. One time for your mind and the health of it. I ain’t gon front, yesterday was a rough day for your boy. But Lily Rayne is back home promoting her new album “Girl On Rhode” and had a listening party at Crib so of course, your favorite introvert had to slide through and peep the vibes. I’m glad I did, the audience was full of PVD’s finest. Stay Silent was in the building. Nino Francis was in the building. Kid Angel was in the building. Cam Bells of course. It was a good looking crowd mane.

I was kinda pissed they ain’t have my “finished basement” drink, but they replaced it with a signature “pink lemonade” vibe for Rayne, so you gotta love it. Artists take note. These are the details that keep an event in uniform. The Canterbury Talez (DJ for Father & Awful Records) came with the Rhode Girl from ATL all the way up to PVD and brought that traditional A-Town flavor. Tunes by Playboi Carti, Young Nudy, and more sprinkled the air with Atlanta energy, you gotta love it. DJ even played “Smack A Bitch” by Rico Nasty. Feminine confidence supreme. Great way to set the stage for what’s to come.

Rayne soon took the stage and ran through a few of her older hits to prepare us for the new drop. This included “Drinks On Me”, “XURWIFI” with a special guest appearance from WHYTRI, and my personal favorite “On” among others. Rayne would be a problem in a Verzuz. The longevity flex also doubled as a way to catch up newcomers to what Lily Rayne provides, which is a lot of different sounds but all with a sense of purity and confidence that comes out equally in her more danceable records as it does her more sensual vibes. Rayne knows who she is and is unwavering in that regard.

So what about the album itself? Man was it a journey. I can appreciate a variety of styles on display as long as the artist themselves makes it a cohesive listening experience and that’s what Rayne provides. Let me tell you the drums on this album are crazy. Latrell James murdered “Coup Ain’t Got No Friends”. “Southside” & “Better Days” were also some of my favorite records. “Everything Is Fake” rung very strongly to me as an introvert of course, and Rayne sold the performances by getting crowd participation. It was fun as hell yelling everything is fake into that microphone when she reached out with it. These are the moments that make the experience feel intimate and memorable, and I think that’s a perfect way to describe this new album. It feels intimate and memorable. Like you’re on tour with Rayne through all of her ups and downs. The album is great and there wasn’t a single song I wanted to skip. Stream “Girl On Rhode” up above, and catch me at the next event sitting quietly by a plant, just soaking up the vibes. Or dancing if I’m lit enough.

PEACE!
