Bryant Barnes - Is This Love To You
“The way we’re falling ain’t the same/ is this love to you?/”
Bryant Barnes knows how to strike a chord … maybe even several at once. With this latest single, “Is This Love To You”, Barnes opens his soul to cry out about a love that just can’t be healthy. A tale as old as time yet the way it’s sung here feels so visceral it carries a sense of fresh air to it.
The song starts with simple piano-led instrumentation that follows Bryant’s voice beat by beat until the grandiose build up at the chorus, introducing the drums and other layers of the wonderful soundscape. Three minutes with this one feels like 30 seconds and next thing you know you’ve ran it back like four times. If you’re a fan of lush vocals that seamlessly urge you to touch your emotions then this might fit into a playlist or two.
Songs like these remind me why I appreciate love so much and the reason it ends up being the focus of much of my own creative writing: on a random Wednesday, you can hear something for the first time and it transports you to a time, a place, a person, a world of immense emotion. Hearing “Is This Love To You” did that for me.
The audio portmanteau on DSP’s isn’t super deep, so take a minute to dive in now as I’m sure much more is on the way.
