An Abel Anniversary: 12 Years of “Echoes Of Silence” (Article)
If you know me, then you know what The Weeknd means to me. I’ve been a fan through every era & they all mean something a little different to me. His sound has evolved a lot since this project was released & while I’ve genuinely enjoyed his evolution, nothing will ever quite hit like the trilogy era.
“EOS” is the 3rd installment of the trilogy series. I, of course, had to revisit it today in celebration of 12 years and I have to say it’s probably the most melancholic of the 3 tapes. It’s dark, moody & emotional; very fitting for this time of year.
If you know me, then you also know what sequencing & smooth transitions mean to me.
MAN. Every song on here flows effortlessly from one to the next and it truly enhances the experience as a listener. He revolutionized this dark R&B sound at a time when it really didn’t exist. Personally, I am forever thankful. It definitely molded my taste to what it is today & something I’m still always seeking when discovering new music.
To see the heights he’s taken his career in these last 12 years has been something so beautiful to watch & be a part of as a fan. He creates a whole world around his music & is faithfully committed to it. That has always been true. I’m excited to see where he takes it in the next 12 as this one continues to age beautifully in his catalog.
I’ll end this with my top 3 songs off “EOS” & a note of encouragement to go press play on this tape:
