Rap Beef Is Getting Really Corny…

If you’re a fan of Rap Music, then you’ve probably heard about the deeply brewing and dangerous beef between the camps of Lil Durk and NBA Youngboy. A complicated and to be honest, unnecessary “beef” between King Von and Youngboy started a while ago, it eventually the to the awful, untimely death of rising rap star, King Von, who was signed to his close friend Lil Durk’s label OTF. Von was killed after getting into an altercation with 4KT member and associate of Youngboy, Quando Rondo. The feud jas been growing behind the scenes day by day and has now has exploded on to the public. They are both major artists in the Rap world and the beef is hard to ignore, especially with how much it affects not only the music and the industry but also actual lives as well. Members and close friends of the two have been trading shots between each other since the incident.

Quando Rondo explaining his beef with King Von and the lead up to his death.

Durk and Youngboy are superstars in the rap culture and with large, rabid fanbases and immense influence in the industry, the beef has inadvertently made people have to choose sides. And the people that have nothing to do with it, look on and watch it as entertainment. A few weeks ago, Lil Durk released “AHHH HA” a single to prep for his rumoured album 7220. Throughout the song, he threw slick shots at Youngboy, who then dropped a scathing diss track the very next day titled “I Hate Youngboy”. The diss track was filled with name drops of multiple rappers in the industry, all of them being connected with Durk or King Von in some way. These aren’t the first disses that they sent to each other. The other ones came in the form of certain subliminal lines in songs and sneak disses through social media that even prompted a viral money challenge of people spreading stacks of money to spell irrelevant and pretty unclever lines.

NBA Youngboy’s viral response to Lil Durk’s “AHHH HA”, The track has over 16 million views in less than two weeks.

Lil Boosie and Gucci Mane, who were both mentioned in “I Hate Youngboy” both dropped diss tracks in response. Lil Boosie dropped one first called “I Don’t Call Phones I Call Shots”. Boosie, who is a veteran in rap and a staple in Louisana rap music, already has some rumoured tension between him and Youngboy. They were close at some point and Boosie even admitted to trying to mentor him in the past and guide him through his career. Gucci Mane also dropped his diss, “Publicity Stunt”. Gucci even referenced a line from Youngboy’s 2020 release “Makes No Sense” that goes “I feel like I’m Gucci Mane in 2006”. Gucci and Boosie are both southern rap legends in the game who at one point had a strong connection and musical chemistry with Youngboy. Even Lil Durk and King Von were once friends with Youngboy and his camp. There’s even a clip of Durk in an interview on No Jumper supporting Youngboy early in his career. Now that there is bloodshed and shots sent between both sides, it’s forcing people involved to pick a side. The way this beef is growing, it’s only going to turn into more division and violence in our culture.

As fans, supporters, and people that contribute to the music business of Rap/Hip-Hop and its culture, we have to take responsibility of the cancerous and senseless rap beefs that dilute the essence. Hip-Hop and “The Streets” have always been parallel and in some ways synonymous with each other. But now with social media, the lines are getting blurrier by the minute. We have to learn to separate the two. With lives lost behind this beef, there may not ever be a resolution between the two camps. But for us as fans, we really shouldn’t feed into this bullshit. Diss songs are one thing, but when it’s promoting pain and death within our culture, we have the power not to support it. And if we don’t support it, they have no purpose of feeding into the bullshit even more. However the two camps handle the feud should be kept out of the public and off social media. Please keep street shit in the streets. Niggas have way too much money and too much influence on the youth. Lil Durk and NBA Youngboy are both immensely talented and carved impactful lanes in music. They have so much more great music, power, and influence to give other than senseless rap beef just to entertain us and send threatening subliminal messages through catchy songs.

But what do I know? I’m just a nigga who writes articles.
