$NOT - Whipski (feat. Lil Skies & Internet Money) [Official Video]

Tiktok is gonna eat this one up. I don’t tik. Nor do I tok. But the chemistry between $NOT’s deep but angsty voice and Internet Money’s signature guitar/808/2-step hi-hat combo just feels like the recipe for a viral challenge. In fact, Internet Money beat x Cole Bennett video is really starting to feel like it’s own genre these days. 

I first caught wind of $NOT about a year ago with his Cole Bennett-directed video for Revenge, and his low emo voice and reserved almost zombie-like demeanor immediately felt like it should be complemented by an Internet Money beat. So of course he delivers when he sings “She gon’ be a savage, bad bitch, ride around in a new whipski”. Then comes Lil Skies who in recent years had appeared to forget what made himself interesting in the first place. He recaptures some of his glory days here, flexing his vocal range a bit more than he has in a while. He even experiments with some new cadences for himself which make his verse more memorable but ultimately it just feels like he was listening to a lot of Trippie Redd that day.

Overall, I enjoy Skies’ nasally tone as a compliment to $NOT’s “I’m in 9th grade but finished puberty last year” ass voice. This is not a bad song, but beyond how much of an earworm the hook is and a couple of Skies’ vocal flexes you aren’t getting anything you wouldn’t expect as we enter year 4 of the Lyrical Lemonade emo rap banger. Especially since Lil Skies was around for the genesis of the template. If nothing else, a new Cole Bennett production is always worth watching.
