Polo G - RAPSTAR (Official Video)

Polo G can rap. He can rap extremely well. He’s a very good rapper. He might be the best rapper in his lane if Lil Baby didn’t exist. He might even be a better rapper than Lil Baby (see Lil Durk’s “3 Headed Goat”). If any of this sounds redundant, it’s because we all know it to be true and this new “RAPSTAR” record doesn’t do anything to prove it further or disprove it.

Not every record has to reinvent the wheel though. While it lacks the killer hook of say, last year’s “Epidemic”, this is a fine addition to Polo’s canon of somber guitar bangers. He gets detailed and introspective enough to not take away from the catchiness of his melody and he never forces his vocal tone to reflect anything other than exactly what he’s feeling.

During the second verse, he even appears to take some cues from his late friend, Juice WRLD, when he raps “anxiety killing me, I just wanna leave Earth/ when they ask if I’m okay it just make everything seem worse”.
In fact, the half-dead vocal tone he used while reflecting on his come-up and where he currently is at in his life & career (while not new to Polo G at all) feels super Juice influenced to me after repeated listens. This feels like it could’ve been a better collab with Juice than even Flex was.
It’s a shame we didn’t get more collaborations between the two. But at least we still have Polo and let’s hope he doesn’t leave Earth anytime soon.

Keep it locked with The Daily Note for more from Polo G in the future.

With Love, Bento
