“Mars Is Electric” Says Maxo, We Won’t Disagree

Money on the dresser, yessir.

It’s 2025 and every other day someone says they “miss when people cared about the music” or “music sucks these days”. My answer to that is always “… I mean, are you sure about that? ‘cus there’s x, y, z that dropped recently and…” but I’m just a man. A man actively trying to find something cooI, with an open mind.

Maxo creates from the heart and this time around he says he did it without restrictions, just feeling it out. That freedom of expression gives us his newest body of work, “Mars Is Electric”. The blend of sounds keeps listeners intrigued; or at least this listener. One song I’m hearing funky interlude vibes. The next I’m hearing jazz drummer underwater summoning their double bass counterpart. Then sneak in some of what I can describe in the easiest way as 2014-2017 Vince Staples (complimentary). It’s like a relaxing weekend of drug-induced comas with pockets of dreams pushing you into different rooms each time.

Long story short: I’m here writing this because of “Ludacris”, the title track & “Anything”, (the final 3 songs) but you have to get there. The previous 7 are a ride along through the mind and soul of the Cali-bred artist in a way that keeps you on your toes wondering what’s up next. Then it feels like Maxo leaves “Matt’s Studio” with everything he needs to land the spaceship after taking us sightseeing through Mars’ atmosphere.

“Ludacris” is easily his most striking raps on this, yet the shortest offering. “Mars Is Electric” follows it up with an impactful one-two punch of entrancingly muddy beat with pockets that Maxo laced with “play-this-back-four-times” stitching. And then “Anything” bears his heart as he raps intimately about cherishing those moments with the people you consider special. Ties a nice Martian-colored-bow on this project.

Go listen to the album when you have some time. That’s all folks.
