Latrell James - Running In Place (Album)

Here for this. It’s been a few years since a project, even longer since an album. We’ll take it whenever.

Latrell James spent the better part of 2023 dropping some singles from this project. This weekend we were blessed with the full vision, “Running In Place”. A title I can relate to more than not. The music itself follows its namesake. We get songs that showcase what a real runner can do versus what running in place sounds like.

At times, Latrell kicks a frenzy of bars that split the ears and say, “Run that back”. The intro, “Tedd Talk”, starts with some mellow guitar strums as he steadily picks up his pace with bars like, “feel like I’m running backward, at least I’m running, though”. By the end, I’m ready to run through the rest of the album like a brick wall.

That energy is maximized on “Cuatro”, a song I wish was longer. It has a “get it by any means” energy, with a beat that stays in your bones; Which sets up the rest of the album amazingly.

After it’s all said and done, we get a cohesive project from Latrell James, and it makes you want to do more than just run in place.
