grouptherapy. - THE ADDENDUM - i was mature for my age, but i was still a child (Deluxe) (Album)

Deluxe’s seem to conjure up mixed feelings these days. However, when they’re done right, it makes it easy to remember what’s to love about them.

Just shy of a year since the release of their debut album: “i was mature for my age, but i was still a child”, grouptherapy. returns with 7 new tracks on the deluxe edition: “THE ADDENDUM”.

I think giving your fans the time to sit with a body of work before dropping a deluxe is a key component to its success. It allows time for it to be fully digested while also building up anticipation to hear something new. There was a 9-month wait time between the 2 drops, with the addition of 2 single releases in that span to ensure we still had grouptherapy. on our minds: “GT” and “Nasty - Remix” featuring Baby Tate. Baby Tate is the only feature on the whole project and what a perfect choice she was. Like grouptherapy., Baby Tate does a lot of genre mixing herself and she just fits right in. If they were to ever need an honorary 4th member, Baby Tate could slide into that role with ease.

After a more vulnerable and personal ending on the original version with “still alive”, “THE ADDENDUM” kicks off at a much higher pace with “…i changed my mind” which draws you in right away. The production is vibrant and refreshing across all 7 tracks (no surprise). Their unique production choices, in conjunction with their ability to dip in and out of whatever genre they choose, are what sets them apart AND makes them so intriguing.

Confidence is laced all through this new addition. They know what they offer is special and they’re okay with spitting bars about it.

“THE ADDENDUM- i was mature for my age, but i was still a child” is a deluxe well done. We’re gifted 7 new tracks with 7 new sounds that sonically blend in with and amplify the richness of the original version.
