Coco Jones - Why Not More? (Album)

And it shows with this full length debut by Coco Jones. “Why Not More?” is only about a weekend old now and already feels like it will age beautifully into being recognized for what it is: a great album by a talented artist who puts love into each sonic ingredient she cooks up.
Coco wastes zero seconds with the first few songs. “Keep It Quiet” is raw, messy, yet confident as she speaks on that love that isn’t quite great for us in the long run. What better way to start an album than hearing how she claims back her heart while showing her vocal range and rhythm skills? With a beat from the same group that had their hands in hits for Ne-Yo & Rihanna? They also touched a budding hit (in my opinion) in “Taste". That’s not even mentioning the single with a gold plaque “Here We Go (Uh Oh)”, which shares a recognizable sample with Twista’s ‘Overnight Celebrity’. These little details all over the album are why the above quote is there. The choices made all complement each other and add to the experience that is Coco Jones.
“Why Not More?” is a love letter to R&B, all shades of it and, well, more. In an era with all the whisper singing (that I also indulge in my fair share of), Coco packs a ton of her voice into these 14 songs. A voice that is backed by emotion and vulnerability that sticks to your ear drums like the sweetest flavored gum you can think of.
I could be biased though because I love me some Coco Jones and wish her nothing but success. Light a candle and listen for yourself. If you DO agree with me, consider seeing her on tour this Spring/Summer in a city near you!
