Bas & The Hics ft Ab-Soul - Norbit

Love what collaboration can bring to the table.

Won’t jump in here and pretend I pressed play caring about The Hics, but this is now 2 for 2 on singles for their collab album with Dreamville artist Bas releasing next month.

The song begins with a lull that keeps your ears resting and clears your mind of any thoughts. Just for Bas to start calmly with “gave you a chance” in a tone that draws you in. Like, the beat doesn’t even drop until the 1:11 mark. Decisions like that is what gets me excited about a full-length.

Especially with “Norbit” being a huge contrast to the previous single in every way possible. Makes me think we’ll get some more range on the project while also showing their having fun trying things out.

Personally, I’m tuned in anytime Bas drops. His performance on this song isn’t like he’s trying to bar us up with millions of metaphors but who’s to say we only care about that? He reads the room and fills the beat (primarily by The Hics & Sounwave) wonderfully. He also uses his voice like the instrument that it is and fills the pockets with gravitas.

And I’d be remiss not to mention a solid showing from TDE’s Ab-Soul (who was just in a worthwhile cypher with Big Sean & Joey Bada$$). Looking forward to more from this upcoming project.
